Seth Banks Files for Re-Election as District Attorney

On Monday, February 12th, District Attorney Seth Banks filed for re-election. Seth has served as District Attorney for Avery, Madison, Mitchell, Watauga, and Yancey counties since 2014.

“It has been a great honor to serve the people of Avery, Madison, Mitchell, Watauga, and Yancey counties over the last four years,” Banks said in a statement.  “Through partnerships with law enforcement agencies, court officials, nonprofits, community groups, and individual citizens across the five counties that I serve, my office has tirelessly pursued justice for the victims of crime and their families.

“We have worked hard to increase the number of habitual felons identified and sent to prison.  The backlog of old criminal cases waiting to be processed through the court system has been virtually eliminated.  We have put child abusers and drug traffickers behind bars and we have embraced innovative programs that seek to address substance abuse in our communities.

“As we look to the future, my administration is committed to ensuring that our mountain communities remain a safe place to live, work, and raise a family.  I am seeking re-election as your District Attorney so that we can continue this important work.”

Before his election in 2014, Seth worked as an Assistant District Attorney and in private practice.  He is certified by the North Carolina State Bar as a specialist in State Criminal Law.  A native of Yancey County, Seth lives in Burnsville with his wife Gretchen and their sons David, age 5 and Luke, age 3.
