Spruce Pine Considers Security Cameras

After some discussion the Spruce Pine Town Board decided to do some more investigation before deciding on whether or not to purchase security cameras for the downtown area. The issue of downtown security was brought into focus with the recent theft of wheel and tires from a Peoples Furniture truck that was parked in a downtown lot. There was some complaint that Spruce Pine Police officers were not patrolling the downtown area enough. Spruce Pine Police Chief Billy Summerlin was at the meeting and addressed the issue saying that his officers are doing their jobs but have a lot of area to cover.  Security camera quotes ranged from $19,000 to $28,000. The council decided to take no action until after their next meeting when they can hear from the security camera companies and find out more details about the systems.
