Rural Communities Receive State Grants

The North Carolina Rural Infrastructure Authority  has  approved 16 grant requests totaling $3,948,755. The requests include commitments to create a total of 683 jobs, 461 of which were previously announced. The public investment in these projects will attract more than $142.8 million in private investment. NC Commerce Secretary Anthony Copeland said, ” Our rural communities have so much to offer businesses, but sometimes need additional investment in infrastructure to compete. The Rural Infrastructure Authority helps communities prepare buildings and industrial sites to better compete for business.” In our area Yancey County received a grant in the Building Reuse category.  A $25,000 grant to Mountain Electronics will support the reuse of  the old Taylor Toggs building in Micaville. Mountain Electronics is currently located on White Oak Road off Hwy 80 South. They have outgrown their current space  and plan on moving their operation this summer where they will be using about 10,00 square feet of the 57,000+ square foot building.  Mountain Electronics is an electric company serving the commercial laundry industry.
