In a News Release, The Yancey County Sheriff’s Office confirms that a deputy shot and killed a man during an incident Friday in which a 911 caller said her husband broke into her house with an axe.
Details are limited, but Chief Deputy Shane Hilliard confirms there was an active domestic violence restraining order against the man, and that the shooting occured on Uncle Harvey’s Lane in Burnsville.
Neighbors reported hearing a shot between 7:30 and 9 pm Friday night near the end of Uncle Harvey’s Lane, around John Henry Road.
Hilliard says the investigation has been turned over to the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation.
