Burnsville Gateway Dedication Postponed

The dedication for the installation of the first Burnsville Glass Gateway Telescope has been postponed, and the celebration date moved out 30-40 days to accommodate technical difficulties and construction delays. However, residents and visitors to the area will begin to see installation progress within the next few weeks. The distinctive signature glass telescopes at the East and West Gateways will announce to motorists that they have arrived at the place of Dark Skies designation where they can see the Bare Observatory and the largest public telescope in the Southeast. They will reflect Burnsville’s past and its namesake, Merchant Captain Otway Burns, who stands proudly on the Burnsville Town Square and used a telescope to navigate the East Coast. The telescopes also represent Burnsville as it is now, a rural haven for artists and artistic endeavors and the seven glass artists who created the glass orbs that fill the aluminum exoskeleton.
