Allen Vinson Greene, age 64, of Spruce Pine, entered his Heavenly home on Monday, May 9th, 2016 at his home after an extended illness.
He was born in Mitchell County and was a life-long resident.  Allen served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era and was very proud to have served his country.   He had worked at Baxters, US Gypsum and retired from the Unimin Corporation.   

He was a Civil War buff and enjoyed reading about the battle strategies of both the North and South. Allen enjoyed fishing, watching the History Channel, westerns on TV, and keeping a smile on everyone's face with his wit.  He had very special relationships with his nieces and nephews and couldn't wait for his step-grandson to get old enough for him to play with.  During his midlife years, Allen found Jesus.  He loved his Lord and his church family at Berry Chapel Baptist Church.   

He was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Aldridge, his father, Chet Greene and several aunts, uncles and grandparents. 
Left to cherish his memories is his wife, best friend and caretaker, Ruby Crawford Greene; step-son, Kevin Freeman and wife, Tonya, of Boone; step-grandson,  Henry Feight Freeman of Boone; step-mother, Mary Lou Greene of Spruce Pine; sisters: Rhonda Franklin of Spruce Pine and Belinda Holland and husband, Donnie, of Nebo; brother, Byron Greene and wife, Kim, of Spruce Pine; sisters-in-law: Judy Biggerstaff and husband, Jerry, of Marion and Linda Burchell of Nicholasville, KY and brother-in-law, Dewey Crawford and wife, Jeanette, of Lexington, KY.  Numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. 

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 11th at Berry Chapel Baptist Church.  Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the church with Military Honors following in the church cemetery.   Rev. Steve Williams and Rev. Greg Hollifield will officiate.
