Area Events Aplenty to Celebrate the 4th of July

Events to celebrate our Independence Day in 2014 are many in our area with plenty of fireworks, a parade, live music and food with activities planned in both Mitchell and Yancey Counties.
The Town of Bakersville will have their annual fireworks display at Gouge Primary School  this evening. You can enjoy live music by the local band Sugardaddy, while concessions will be provided by the Bakersville Ruritan Club. Fireworks will begin at dark.
The Spruce Pine Kiwanis Club is sponsoring a 4th of July Parade through Downtown Spruce Pine Saturday July 5th at 6:00pm, followed by fireworks at dark.  The parade will start at Webb Funeral Home and proceed through Upper Street.
Also on the  5th the Burnsville Lions Club is again sponsoring the Annual Patriotic Celebration on the Burnsville Town Square.  Craft vendors will be set up at around 9:00 am.  The Lions Club will be cooking hamburgers and hot dogs to go along with cold beverages and the music stage will kick off an afternoon of entertainment with the Star Spangled Banner at noon.  Enjoy music and crafts all afternoon until around 6:00pm.  All money raised will go to the Lions Club Donation Account to help Yancey County folks with eye exams and glasses.
After enjoying the festival and entertainment, stick around for the Yancey County fireworks display at dark on the Burnsville Town Square followed by another "Stars on the Square" stargazing event.
There is no charge to attend.
