Attorney Hal Harrison Recommended to Fill District Judge Vacancy
Spruce Pine attorney Hal Harrison has been selected as a candidate to fill the vacant District Judge seat in the 24th Prosecutorial District which includes Yancey, Mitchell, Avery, Madison and Watauga Counties. Harrison was the top vote getter in a field of five candidates which were picked by the 24th Prosecutorial District Judicial Bar Association. If chosen, Harrison will be appointed by Gov. Pat McCory who will be filling the vacant seat left open by the retirement of District Court Judge Alexander Lyerly in March. There is no deadline for the Governor to make the replacement and he does not have to fill the position from the list provided to him.
