A bridge replacement project near Tipton Hill in Mitchell County has been set back due to an engineering issue. The replacement of the bridge that spans Big Rock Creek at the intersection of Hwy. 197 and Harrell Hill Road was delayed recently while contractor Crowder Construction redesigned the structures footers. That process will set back the bridge's completion date for at least a month according to the NCDOT. The project was originally scheduled to be finished by the end of the year but the contractor now hopes to have the bridge reopened by the first day of Spring 2013, around March 23rd.
