Cougar JV's Unbeaten In League Play So Far



Heritage JV teams off to strong start In Western Highlands

With recent lopsided wins over Owen and Polk County the Mountain Heritage JV girls basketball team moved to 3-0 in Western Highlands Conference play.
After topping Hendersonville 42-27 in the league opener, the Lady Cougars traveled to Polk County and came home with a 35-20 win. Heritage jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the opening stanza in Columbus and they never looked back at the Wolverine JV, finishing off the game with a 14-2 fourth quarter to win by 15.
Destiney Whitt (11 points) and Hayleigh Fox (10 points) were both double figure scorers for Heritage which also got seven points from Taylor Whitson and six from Kassie Gilley.
Heritage was never challenged in a 46-19 win over Owen on Saturday afternoon in Burnsville. With a tough pressure full court press the Lady Cougars were able to construct a 26-6 lead by the break and cruise in the second half as Coach Amanda Robinson was able to empty her bench and get everyone some playing time.
Heritage scored the first nine points of the second half and grabbed a 44-9 lead following a three pointer by Destiney Whitt to end the third quarter. Whitt wound up with 13 points in the win while Hayleigh Fox added 16, Kassie Gilley chipped in 7 and Siera Ballew and Taylor Whitson netted 6 points apiece.
The JV boys scored a come from behind victory over the Warhorses with a strong performance beyond the three point line and at the charity stripe.
The Cougars (3-0 WHC) overcame a 15 point halftime deficit behind the three point shooting of Nick Chandler, Daniel Shepherd and Nick Ballew. Chandler and Bryson Cooper nailed key free throws in the final minute to secure the 46-42 win for the Cougars.
Chandler hit 5 of 6 free tosses in the 4th quarter and finished with 11 points while Cooper led the team in scoring with 12, connecting on 3 of 4 free throws in the final seven minutes. Daniel Shepherd added two three pointers and finished with 8 points in the win over the Warhorses.
Bryson Cooper also led the team to a 41-28 win at Polk County. Cooper, who paced the team with 13, helped get the Cougars off to a quick start against the Wolverines with ten first quarter points. Nick Ballew and Nick Chandler each added three pointers in a 20 point Cougar first quarter as Heritage constructed a 26-14 lead by halftime.
Daniel Shepherd and Caden Fox added 8 points each to the help the Cougars win on the road at Polk.
