Details: Dewayne E. Woody of Newdale, passed away on Tuesday, April 29th at his home surrounded by his loving family.
A native of Avery County, he was a son of the late Creed and Texie Hoilman Woody. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Wanda McKinney Woody, who passed away in 2006; grandson, Timothy Garland; father-in-law, John McKinney and brother-in-law, Charlie Wise. Dewayne was a member of Fairview Baptist Church. He worked for a number of furniture manufacturers for over 40 years. He was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather who will be greatly missed by his family. He loved visiting with his friends and family in the community, loafing around with his son, Wayne, and going shopping. His grandchildren were his pride and joy.
Surviving is his daughter, Angie Garland and husband, Timmy, of Newdale; son, Dewayne Woody, Jr. of Morganton; granddaughters: Tabitha Garland of Newdale and Telisha Duncan of Drexel; great-grandsons: Dalton, Koby, and Tayvien; sisters: Nina Grindstaff and husband, Bruce, of Spruce Pine, Shirley Wise also of Spruce Pine, Sue Cook and husband, Lester, of Greenville, TN, and Wilma Fisher and husband, Wess, of Spruce Pine; brother, Bobby Woody and wife, Patricia, of Castalian Springs, TN; mother-in-law, Willie McKinney of Newdale; brother-in-law, Johnny McKinney and wife, Anita, of Newdale and special little buddy, Luke Forbes of Burnsville. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 2nd in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Rev. Tom Thomas will officiate. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. prior to the funeral service at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday in the Newdale Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
