District Attorney Orr Resigns, Banks To Be Sworn In Early



Robert Orr, Interim District Attorney for the 24th Prosecutorial District (Avery, Madison, Mitchell, Watauga and Yancey) submitted his letter of resignation Tuesday, May 27 with an effective date of June 5th. Orr has served as Interim District Attorney since his appointment by Governor McCrory following the unexpected resignation of DA Jerry Wilson on March 31 for health reasons.

Gov. McCrory has issued a commission to Seth Banks of Burnsville to assume the duties of District Attorney for the balance of the existing term which ends December of this year.  He will be sworn in June 5, at 6 p.m. in the courtroom of the Yancey County Courthouse in Burnsville. The public is invited to attend the swearing in ceremony and the reception that follows at the Nu Wray Inn.

Banks was elected in the May 6 Republican Primary for the office of District Attorney for the 24th Judicial District and has no opposition in November.
