Edgar Young, Sr.

Edgar Young, Sr. age 79, of Swiss Pine Lake Drive in Spruce Pine, died Sunday, February 11, 2018 at the John F. Keever Solace Center.

Born on August 8, 1938 in Mitchell County, he was the son of the late Octavis and Gertrude Ray Young. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by first wife, Juanita Parker Young who passed away in 1992. He was also preceded in death by his grandchildren; Joshua Young-Humes and Lockland Fowler and a brother; Lawrence Howard Young.

Mr. Young was a member of the Addies Chapel United Methodist Church and was retired from Baxter Healthcare. He was a graduate of Barber-Scotia College.

He will be remembered as a kind, gentle soul that loved his family and particularly his grandchildren. He enjoyed reading the newspaper and watching the news on MSNBC. He was an ardent U.N.C. Tar Heel fan.

Left to cherish his memories are his wife; Ella Sue Swepson Young of Spruce Pine; his children; Edgar Young, Jr. and wife, LaWanda of Durham; Jackie Young of Asheville; Shawn Young and wife, Tamela of Charlotte; Deniece Forney and husband, Calvin of Rutherfordton; Ivory Fowler and wife, Jeannie of Morganton; Paula Fowler of Marion and Shajuan Fowler and wife, Nicole of Marion; there are twenty-four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence at the funeral service celebrating the life of Edgar Young, Sr. on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at 1:00 pm at the Addies Chapel United Methodist Church with the Rev’s. Walter Pegues, George Banks, and Travis Wynkoop officiating. The quiet hour will be Saturday, February, 17, 2018 from 12:00 noon until 1:00 pm at the Church. A time to support the family, share memories and receive friends will be on Friday, February 16, 2018 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Webb Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the McDowell Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society, the Rathburn House, or John F. Keever Solace Center.

The family would like to extend special ‘Thanks’ to Duke Medical Center doctors and staff, Dr. Jean Spalding, Blue Ridge Regional Hospital, Mission Hospital, Dr. Brie Folkner, 21st Century Oncology, Medi-Home Care, and the Staff and Volunteers of John F. Keever Solace Center for their wonderful care of Edgar during his illness.
