Details: A native of Mitchell County, he was the son of the late Clyde and Carrie Johnson Whitson. He was a carpenter and cabinet maker. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter in law, Sharon Whitson.
Survivors include his former wife, Yvonne Greene; sons: Ronnie Ellis Whitson and David A. Whitson and wife Stephanie all of Spruce Pine and Wade Whitson of Penland; sister; Eileen W. Boone and husband Brown of Old Fort, NC; grandchildren: Amy Moore, Christopher Ellis Whitson, Nichole Emerald Whitson, Kelly English, Ashley Johnson, Brandon Whitson, Isaac Whitson and Olivia Whitson; great grandchildren, Austin English and Logan English; also several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be 4:00 pm Sunday, September 23, 2012 in the Western Carolina Church in the Cross Street Building, formerly Hampshire Hoisery Mills, with the Rev. Randy Bonner and Rev. Cameron Smith officiating. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in the Bakersville Memorial Cemetery.
