51-year-old John Fullwood was on the run this weekend. Friday he walked away from a work detail at the NC Arboretum. Fullwood surrendered to correctional officers at about 5:20 p.m. Sunday in Haywood County. Telephone tips led officers to a home on Incinerator Road, just off Interstate 40 between Canton and Clyde. While officers were in the area, Fullwood emerged from the woods and turned himself in. He will now face a felony escape charge. Fullwood had been assigned to Buncombe Correctional Center, a minimum-security prison, for discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle 18 times. He was due for release in September 2016. Fullwood was transported to Mountain View Correctional Center in Spruce Pine and will face a charge of felony escape.
