Estatoe Man Arrested for Making Meth (Details)
Mitchell County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Kevin Brian Griffith, age 34, of 1182 Hoot Owl Road, Spruce Pine, N.C. Griffith was arrested at his residence for manufacturing methamphetamine and possession of precursors. Captain R.V. Wiseman, SBI Special Agent C.E. Vines, Detective J.D. Holmes, and Detective S.B. Hughes executed a Search Warrant at Griffith’s residence. The officers received information from numerous citizens stating Griffith was making methamphetamine. Captain Wiseman advised when the officer’s entered the residence and began to search they located an active One Pot (Shake & Bake) lab operation. Officers located ammonia nitrate, Liquid Fire, lithium battery cases, lye, pickling salt, and hundreds of empty Pseudoepehrine blister packs. The officers also located plastic tubing and jars used to produce methamphetamine.
In a shed behind the residence the officers located more ammonia nitrate, tubing, glass containers, and a trash bag full of empty pseudoepehrine blister packs. There was a burn pile in the back yard which contained empty blister packs, lithium battery cases, and residue from a Shake and Bake container. Officers found an area on the property which had been dug up with a tractor loader. This area also contained evidence of meth lab trash. The officers also seized several guns from the residence.  Lt. J.D. English and K-9 Etong, Deputies C.H. McClintick, A.D. Beam, C.C. Hobson, S.E. Davis, and Yancey Sheriff Detective Brian Shufford assisted with the search.  Griffith who was out on bond from September 20, 2011 on conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine and possession of precursors admitted to the officers he had not stop manufacturing methamphetamine. A Superior Court Judge placed Griffith back in jail on no bond for the previous charges. An additional $150,000.00 secured bond was placed on Griffith for the current charges. Griffith is schedule to appear in Mitchell County Court on December 2, 2011.  The Sheriff praised the effort and cooperation between agencies in detecting and locating these meth lab operations. Sheriff Street went on to say, "This was sixteen of these Shake and Bake labs his officers have destroyed since the first of the year".
