Details: Frank Russell Hollifield of Old Chestnut Grove Church Road in Little Switzerland died Monday, February 4th at Brian Center Health & Rehab in Spruce Pine.
     Born on February 3, 1920 in Mitchell County, he was the son of the late Manly and Effie Buchanan Hollifield. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers; Rex, Bill, Fred, and Paul Hollifield and his sister; Mary Griffin.
     Mr. Hollifield was a member and Chairman of the Deacons at the Chestnut Grove Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a survivor of Pearl Harbor and participated in battles in Rhineland and in the European and Pacific Theaters. He was a charter member of the Mitchell County Gideon’s Camp.
     Mr. Frank Hollifield is survived by his wife of sixty-three years; Hilda Cox Hollifield of Little Switzerland; his brother; Tommy Hollifield and wife, Lillian of Spruce; and several nieces and nephews.
     The funeral services for Frank Hollifield will be conducted on Friday, February, 8, 2013 at 12:00 noon at the Chestnut Grove Baptist Church with the Rev’s. Greg Burnette and Homer Murdock, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in the Burnette Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites. The family will receive friends Friday morning from 11:00 am until 12:00 noon at the church.
     In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Gideon’s.
