Great Smoky Mountains National Park Open through the Weekend
North Carolina and Tennessee legislators have worked together to fund the re-opening of The Great Smokey Mountains National Park. North Carolina Representative Michele Presnell said that North Carolina will allocate $75,000 from tourism advertising and Tennessee will spend $305,000 to reopen the park during the peak fall tourism season. It is estimated that the tourism industry has lost over $30 million dollars in visitor spending in the 18 North Carolina and Tennessee Counties located around the Park. The Parks reopen today and the states will pay operational costs to keep the parks open through this Sunday.
