Two Mountain Heritage High School graduating seniors were named their school's Wendy's High School Heisman, award winners. The female winner was Nyssa Freeman and the male winner was Kaleb McCurry.
The competition in the Wendy's High School Heisman award program is very rigorous. First, two school winners are chosen from all the reviewed applicants. Then, ten male and ten female winners are chosen from North Carolina. It is narrowed down to twelve national finalists and two are chosen, one male and one female, as national winners at the Heisman Trophy presentation weekend in New York City in December. The school winners are presented with a certificate signed b the only two-time winner of the award, Archie Griffin, and a Wendy's High School Heisman patch.
Freeman finished her Mountain Heritage career as the school's all-time leader in three pointers made and highest percentage free throw shooter in women's basketball. McCurry holds the school record in strikeouts recorded for a career and for a single season in baseball. We congratulate these two and wish them much luck with their future.
