Howard Buchanan, 94, of Green Mountain, went home to be with his Heavenly Father, Sunday January 7, 2018 at the Care Partners Solace Center.
A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late Ike and Crettie Peterson Buchanan. He was also preceded in death by brothers: Tom Buchanan, J.D. Buchanan and Dannie Buchanan, and sisters: Hettie B. Davis and Blanche B. Garland.
A WWII US Army Air Corps Veteran, Howard was a former employee of Glen Raven Mills, a trucker in the tire business and a farmer. He was a member of Burnsville Lodge # 717 A.F. & A.M. for 57 years. He was a very devoted Member, Choir Leader and Deacon of North Bend Free Will Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife of 70 years: Nora Hughes Buchanan; a daughter: Brenda Thomas and husband Mike of Weaverville; three sons: David Buchanan and wife Judy of Burnsville, Bobby Buchanan of Green Mountain and his fiancée Carolyn Shepherd of Burnsville. and Dwight Buchanan and wife Becky of Burnsville; seven grandchildren: twelve great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; a sister: Mary Wilson and husband Rev. J C of Asheville and a brother: Jack Buchanan and wife Joanne of Pocatello, Idaho
Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Tuesday, January 9, 2018, in the Chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home. The Revs. Phillip Hughes and Rodney Deyton will officiate. Masonic Rites will be conferred by Burnsville Lodge # 717 A.F. & A.M. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery at Horton Hill.
His grandsons and Deacons of North Bend will serve as Pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from Noon until 2 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home.
