A local businessman has approached the Spruce Pine Town Council with a proposal to build an indoor recreation facility at Brad Ragan Park. Tommy Phillips is spearheading the project that would construct a $300,000 sports facility that could be utilized by high school, middle school and youth league teams on an existing concrete pad at the Park. Phillips told the Council that with private funds and a grant the money for the project is coming together and that the facility would allow the Town to hold basketball tournaments which would in part help defray the cost of operating the business. Town officials want to ensure funding security and that the use of the facility is shared equally among all involved.
