Leland Scott

Leland Scott, 80, of the Jacks Creek Community passed away Sunday, February 4, 2018 at the James P. Keever Solace Center in Asheville, NC.

Before passing, Leland rededicated his life to the Lord in the early morning hours of Sunday, January 28, 2018 in Mission Hospital.

A native of Yancey County, he was the son of the late Carl & Mary Scott.

Leland was a member of the Patterson Branch FWB Church in Burnsville.  He worked at W.H. Arthur Sheet Metal in Asheville, NC for 21 years, then worked for Yancey County Schools at Burnsville Elementary School as a custodian for 17 years.  He enjoyed working with Gene King and teasing the teachers and staff, especially Judy Byrd, Sharon Randolph and Judy Swann, of Burnsville Elementary School.

His favorite restaurant was the Bantam Chef in Burnsville where he would go to talk about cars, guns, tell a joke or discuss pranks he had pulled.  Leland bragged that there was no better food or people than Mr. & Mrs. Junior Davis, their son, Devin, and the ladies who work there, along with the patrons who ate there regularly.  He considered them his friends.  Leland’s family would like to extend their thanks to them.

Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Anna J.(Deyton) Scott; three sons: Danny Scott and wife, Kay, of Morganton, NC, Stephen Scott and Ray Scott and wife, Tammy, of Morganton, NC; a daughter, Patricia S. Edwards and husband, Rev. Adam Edwards of Burnsville, NC and a sister, Kathy Penland of Burnsville.  Also surviving are 9 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 6:30 PM, Thursday, February 8 in the Chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home.  Family will receive friends from 5 PM until service begins.  Pastor Cecil Hensley and Rev. Ricky Bennett will officiate with the Edwards and Scott Families singing.  Burial will be in the Howell Cemetery on Patterson Branch Road above the church.
