Madison County Man Arrested for Animal Abuse

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office reported that James Bassham was recently arrested following the discovery of multiple deceased animals at a residence in the Wolf Laurel community. The investigation was initiated after the sheriff’s department received a report of potential animal abuse. Deputies conducted a search of the property and uncovered two deceased Pyrenees dogs, six dead chickens, and one dead duck. Additionally, they found a Pyrenees puppy in an extremely malnourished condition. The animals were transferred to the Western Carolina Diagnostics Center for a necropsy, which confirmed that the dogs had starved to death.
