Details: Mary Lou Huskins Willis of Bakersville, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 24th at the Mitchell House in Spruce Pine.
A native of Mitchell County, she was a daughter of the late Charlie and Creanie Gouge Huskins. She was also preceded in death by her loving husband, John Willis; one infant sister and eight brothers. Mary Lou was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who loved flowers and gardening.
Surviving is her daughter, Giovanna Peterson and husband, Phillip, of Mount Holly; son, Roger Gouge and wife, Nancy, of Franklington; brother, Bob Huskins and wife, Bertha Mae, of Bakersville; sister, Kathleen Morris Hall of Bakersville; grandchildren: Aaron Gouge of Texas, Amber Brown and husband, Tyler, of Franklington, Chuck Grindstaff and wife, Cherie, of Bakersville, Dawn Owings and husband, Todd, of Mount Holly; great- grandchildren: Kimberly Owings, Madison Brown and Kristopher Brown; two special nieces: Carolyn Wise of Newland, and Marilyn Sparks of Bakersville. Three step-great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 27th at Lily Branch Baptist Church. Rev. Toby Crowder and Rev. Steve Williams will officiate. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday May 28th in the church cemetery.
