McDowell County deputies say two inmates who escaped custody in Avery County have been arrested. Cousins Calvin and Phillip Metcalf were arrested in Gordon County, Georgia
The SBI is now working with Mitchell, Avery, McDowell County Sheriff's Deputies to arrest two McDowell inmates on the run after escaping from custody Tuesday. 20-year-old Calvin Lee Metcalf, of Bakersville, and 25-year-old Phillip Nicholas Metcalf, of Spruce Pine could be in Tennessee investigators say. The two suspects who are cousins, and were in jail on previous theft charges, took the detective's three guns and patrol truck. Authorities believe the Metcalfs are now driving a grey four-door Dodge truck with a camper cover, tinted windows and black running boards. The license plate number for the truck driven by the escaped inmates is AEW-7350. The suspects dumped the camper and some of the detectives belongings from inside the truck in Buncombe County around 7pm Tuesday. The two over powered a guard who was with the two men while they were describing the locations of several break ins they were accused of on July 21st in Mitchell County. They are considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information regarding the suspects is asked to call 911 immediately.
