Mitchell Animal Rescue Received Grant for Adoption Program

Mitchell County Animal Rescue (MCAR) of Spruce Pine has announced it has been awarded a $6,500 grant from the Petco Foundation to support its Adoption Readiness program and Free Publicly Owned Pets Spay and Neuter program, through its Community Cares Spay and Neuter Fund.

The investment will have a two-fold impact for both MCAR and for the citizens of Mitchell County. First, it will help provide the best care possible for shelter animals by making sure they have everything they need to be adopted into a loving home including spay/neuter surgery, microchipping, flea preventative, deworming medications, full vaccinations including rabies vaccination, and food, shelter, and loving care from staff. Second, it will allow qualified Mitchell County residents to have their dogs or cats spayed or neutered, plus have their rabies and other vaccinations if needed, absolutely free of charge. To qualify, you must be a Mitchell County resident from a low-income household, a senior citizen on a fixed income or a veteran. To find out if you qualify, please call the shelter at 828-765-6952 for more information.

“The Petco Foundation has become an important part of our MCAR family by investing in our programs for the past three years in a row. Their backing not only impacts our shelter animals but makes a difference for all pets in Mitchell County,” said MCAR Executive Director, Amber Lowery.

Mitchell County Animal Rescue is a nonprofit organization devoted to the rescue and care of abandoned, neglected and otherwise unwanted animals in Mitchell County, NC. This year they celebrate their 36th anniversary of serving animals in the community and the people who love them.
