Mitchell Commissioners Vote to Continue One-On-One Program
Mitchell County school board members voted unanimously last week to continue the high school program of supplying each student with a laptop computer for school work. The Board approved the lease of 605 new Apple Macbook laptops that will allow Mitchell High’s “one on one program” to continue providing laptops to students from their freshman year until they graduate at no cost to the student. The program started at the high school four years ago and has now been integrated into the curriculum helping students submit their assignments online and stay up to date on their grades and is seen by educators as technology vital to modern learning in the classroom. Since the program began the school has seen a noticeable improvement in test scores and student interest with the graduation rate increasing from 80 percent in 2011 to 88 percent this past year. End of school course and SAT test scores have also improved since the laptops were introduced to the student-body as a whole.
