New Law Requires All Mopeds Be Registered
Governor Pat McCrory signed a bill this week that requires all mopeds now be registered with the state. This means scooters will have to be registered and tagged, just like any car or motorcycle. Before the law was passed there was little regulation. The riders of most mopeds or scooters are those who are non-licensed drivers, who have lost their license or have never been licensed, but still need transportation to go to work to support their families it is argued. Right now, moped riders don't need insurance but lawmakers are studying whether that requirement should be added eventually.
