Christ is Hope Foundation Food Drive


The Oak Tree Store, located at 462 Oak Avenue, the former Attic location across from the Central Baptist Church parking lot, continues to accept donations of non-perishable food items.  They are asking for members of the community to help feed homeless folks and families that are in need.  The food drive is sponsored by the Christ is Hope Foundation.  Get more information or make a donation at the Oak Tree Store in the former Attic location across from the parking lot at Central Baptist Church on Upper Street.

Food Ministry for the Needy of All Counties


 Paint Gap Baptist Church is doing a food ministry for the needy.  The only requirement is that you or someone you know needs food.  All counties are welcome.  Please call ahead for pickup time at 828-689-4841 or 828-206-4841.

Weekly Bible Study at the Senior Centers


Bible Study is held at the Mitchell Senior Center in Bakersville every Tuesday morning at 10:00am and at the Yancey Senior Center every Wednesday at 12:00pm. For more information, for Mitchell call 688-3019, for Yancey call 678-3581.

Church Services at Woodland Hills Apartments


Brother Darrell Tipton holds services every Tuesday night at 6:45pm in the Community Building at Woodland Hills Apartments. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Rummage "Free-for-All" for Needy Residents of Walnut Apts.


Freedom Outreach Ministry will be having a Rummage "Free-for-all" for the needy residents at the Walnut Avenue Apartments (Fairgrounds) in Spruce Pine on May 19th, 2012.  Donations of gently used clothing, canned or boxed food products, or household items are needed to help with this event.  If you or your church have items to donate, please call 765-0323.

Free Concert with Internationally Acclaimed Female Vocalist, Joanie Tabor


Internationally acclaimed vocal artist and motivational speaker Joani Tabor will appear in concert at Spruce Pine First Baptist Church on Sunday, May 20th, at 6:30pm.  Joani has appeared all across the United States, has performed and spoken in twenty countries around the world, on every continent, has over 100 television appearances on 4 national networks, has been named “Female Vocalist of the Year” and is the recipient of the “Gold Cross Award.”  Her music can be heard on over 900 stations in the United States and by 7.2 million listeners in 95 countries over Quality Europe FM.  Her discography includes twenty album or video releases since 1989 and many of her songs appear on The Singing News Top 80 Chart and the US Gospel News America’s Top 100 Play List. The public is invited to attend this concert. There is no admission fee, although a love offering will be received. Old Time Tent Revival


There will be an Old Time Tent Revival Monday May 21st through Saturday May 26th at 7:00pm nightly.   Preaching will be Rev. Brent Duncan, Rev. Matt Ward, and Rev. Tony Fowler. They will also have special singing nightly.  The tent will be located between Bakersville and Spruce Pine in the Ledger Community at the corner of 226 at Penland Road.

Clothes and Toys Giveaway


There will be a Clothes and Toys Giveaway Friday and Saturday May 25th and 26th from 10:00am-3:00pm at Cub Creek Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.  Grab a bag full for your family or another one in need.

God's Hands Ministry Food Giveaway


God's Hands Ministry gives away free food every other Saturday from 8:30am-noon at the Crabtree Chapel Baptist Church located at the Mitchell/Yancey county line "up the valley" above Young's Mountain Music.  All who are in need are urged to stop by.  For more information call Rev. Fast Food Pantry in Mitchell County


Residents in Mitchell County that need food assistance are invited to stop by The Fast Food Pantry at The Bridge, formerly PInebridge, in Spruce Pine.  This is a ministry of The Bridge Church. Pastor Tom Anglin welcomes all  Mitchell County residents that need assistance.

Hot Dog Supper and Dessert Auction Benefit


Richard Norton of Mars Hill has been called a living miracle.  On December 8 of last year, Richard suffered a ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm, a condition which few people survive.  After four and
a half months in hospital and rehabilitation facilities, he is home and doing well.  Richard, and his family and friends give thanks to God for his miraculous recovery. In an effort to defray Richard’s medical bills, friends and family at Ivy Hill Baptist Church and Beech Glen Baptist Church will be hosting a hot dog supper and dessert auction on May 26 from 4 until 7 pm at Beech Glen Church. Everyone is invited.  Supper is free, but donations are requested.

First Baptist Congregation Honors Beth Joyner


Beth Joyner has been a part of the Burnsville First Baptist Church Ministry Team for 27years and during her tenure has faithfully shared her talents throughout our community. Ms. Joyner has decided to make a career change by entering into the Clinical Pastoral Education Program at Baptist Hospital in Winston Salem. On  Sunday May 27, Ms. Joyner will be leading a special time of music during the 11:00 worship service in the church sanctuary. It will be followed by a reception in her honor from 12:30 – 2:30 in the church fellowship hall. The congregation will take that time to celebrate her ministry with us. The community is invited to join us in the sending forth.

Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser


Windom Baptist Church youth group will be hosting a Spaghetti Dinner Friday June 1st from 4:00pm and go until they are out of food in the Windom Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. Price will be $6.00 for adults and $3.00 for children 10 and under and will include Spaghetti, salad, bread, dessert and choice of tea or lemonade. Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser...With Airplane & Helicopter Rides!


Trinity and St. Thomas Episcopal Churches, Green Valley Baptist Church, Pinegrove, Mt. Zion  and Vance Memorial Methodist Churches and  Ryan Airplane Company join to sponsor a Spaghetti Dinner fundraiser for Jungle Aviation and Radio Service “JAARS”  on Saturday, June 16th, 5:30 p.m., at the Avery County Airport.   Eat in or take out is available.  JAARS,  the air support  team for the Wycliffe Bible Translators, flies passengers and cargo into the most challenging and remote airfields of the jungles, oceans and dense tropical rain forests at the ends of the earth.  Their mission is “to provide technical services and resources to speed Bible translations for all people.” JAARS pilots train here in the heart of our Blue Ridge mountains for their missions around the globe.  They will be on hand for the fundraiser and at 3:00 p.m. will offer airplane and Helicopter rides weather permitting for a small fee.
