Rick Bacon Passed Away August 7th

Richard “Rick” Norton Bacon passed  away Thursday, August 7th.  Rick was living in Lumberton, NC but spent many years as a well known character  in our community.  He was the voice waking people up and sharing his “Bacon’s Bits” each morning on WKYK from the early 70s to late 80s. He enjoyed local sports broadcasting and he worked as Sales Manager at WKYK until he left to pursue his own endeavors beginning, the Toe Valley Shopper.  Rick sold the Shopper to the Mitchell News Journal and went on to spend 26 years in the newspaper business across several states.  He was diagnosed with lung cancer in March of this year. His online obituary, which was written with Rick’s flair for humor and sarcasm can be viewed here. Rick requested in lieu of flowers that you pass along an unexpected act of kindness in his memory.
