Sheriff’s Office to Conduct Rapid Response Training
Yancey County Schools is coordinating with the Yancey Sheriff’s Office to conduct a rapid response training day to be held tomorrow at Cane River Middle School. This training will involve staff from all schools across the county as well as several local law enforcement agencies, emergency responders, and fire departments and will simulate a shooter at Cane River. The scenario will provide immeasurable training for law enforcement and school staff personnel. Tomorrow is a teacher’s work day in Yancey County and school will not be in session. School Superintendant Dr. Tony Tipton alerts the public to remember that this is being conducted on a day when no students will be at school and he asks the public to please respect the seriousness and value of the training and to be aware that it is a “Training Exercise” only. This is an invitation only drill and no students will be involved.
