South Toe Gets Grant, Adding Weather Station

South Toe School is proud to announce that Ms. Margot Atuk's fifth grade class has received a PRISM (PRomoting Innovation in Science and Mathematics) Grant from the Burroughs Wellcome Fund for their project, "Weather Wonder and Research."  The $1,693 grant will help the fifth graders purchase and set up a professional weather station at the school that will collect weather data and send real-time information to online resources for viewing by the community. The grant will also allow South Toe to purchase supplies for teaching weather, and fifth graders will use these materials to teach second graders and kindergarteners about meteorology and to help these younger students build their own homemade weather instruments.  This project will be on-going, with fifth graders each spring teaching fourth graders how to maintain the station when it is their turn to take charge the coming fall.  Keep an eye out for information about how to access the data from the station later this spring!
