Spruce Pine Attorney Hal Harrison Appointed to Judge Position
Upon the recommendation of the judicial bar association, NC Gov. Pat McCrory has appointed Spruce Pine Attorney Hal Harrison to fill the vacant district court judge position for the 24th Prosecutorial District. Harrison, who will replace Judge Alexander Lyerly who resigned in April, has previously served as resident Superior Court Judge in the 24th District, which covers Mitchell, Madison, Yancey, Avery and Watauga Counties. A partner at Harrison and Poore in Spruce Pine, Harrison was the top vote getter among five finalists considered for the position. He will serve as judge for the remainder of Lyerly’s term, set to expire in 2016, and then will face an election after his term ends.
