The Toe River Arts Council announces the availability of its annual art scholarships. Awards will be given to graduating high school seniors or adults continuing their education, from Yancey or Mitchell County, and pursuing a higher education degree majoring in any of the arts or arts education. The application deadline is April 1, 2017 at 5pm.
Each scholarship will be in an amount between $250 and $1,000 and will be paid directly to the degree-based institution of the applicant's attendance.
Guidelines and an application form are available at www.toeriverarts.org/for-artists/arts-scholarship/ and must be submitted by the deadline, April 1, 2017 at 5pm. In addition to the application form, applicants are asked to present work that best exemplifies the extent and quality of their past accomplishments. Examples may include but are not limited to: ceramics, drawing, graphic design, jewelry, painting, print making, sculpture, textile and fabric design, drama, music, and creative writing. Work portfolios are limited to ten objects.
Submissions do not have to be related to the category of degree program to be eligible. For example, the applicant may submit a sculpture even if they are accepted to a photography program. There is no application fee. No late applications will be accepted. The evaluation will be based upon those submissions that demonstrate original thinking, an artistic commitment, and a willingness to take creative risks.
Completed submissions may be dropped off at either TRAC Gallery between 10:30am and 5pm, Tuesday-Friday in Spruce Pine at 269 Oak Avenue or Burnsville at 102 West Main Street. Please contact TRAC at 828-682-7215 for any questions.
