Two Arrested for Restaurant Break-In

Mitchell County Detectives arrest two men for breaking into a local restaurant. Phillip Nicholas Metcalf, age 25, of 910 Bent Road, Spruce Pine and Calvin Lee Metcalf, age 20, of 4686 NC 226, Bakersville are facing several felony and misdemeanor charges.
 
Captain R.V. Wiseman advised around 9:30 p.m., Sunday night deputies responded to a breaking and entering call at Bonnie and Clyde’s located at Loafer’s Glory.

Beth Rhinecker, owner, told deputies the alarm company had called her and advised the alarm had been activated at her restaurant. Rhinecker advised when she arrived the front door had been kicked in. Rhinecker told deputies that the cash register was missing. Rhinecker told deputies the cash register contained $34.16 which was change for the next business day. The money included cash and rolled coins.
 
Lt. Detective C.C. Hobson arrived and along with Rhinecker reviewed the business surveillance video. Lt. Detective Hobson was able to see a truck on the video. Lt. Detective Hobson then had Mitchell Communications put out an attempt to locate for the truck in the video.
 
The Tease Me Hair and Nail Salon located beside the restaurant also had been broke into but nothing was missing.
 
About an hour later Avery County Sheriff’s Deputies stopped a truck matching the description near Newland. Avery County Deputy’s located money in the truck which included rolled coins of which Rhinecker advised was in the cash register.
 
Lt. Detective Hobson interviewed the pair. Philip Metcalf told Lt. Detective Hobson he acted as lookout while Calvin Metcalf kicked the door in and stole the cash register at Bonnie and Clyde’s and the Tease Me Hair and Nail Salon. Phillip Metcalf told Lt. Detective Hobson they had threw the cash register out beside the road after break in.
 
Lt. Detective Hobson was aware of a break in at City Drive In located in Spruce Pine on Friday night. Lt. Detective Hobson contacted Spruce Pine Detective S.B. Hughes. Lt. Detective Hobson and Detective Hughes were also able to obtain evidence connecting the pair to the City Drive break in.
 
Lt. Detective Hobson obtained arrest warrants on Calvin Metcalf for felony breaking and entering (2 counts), felony larceny, and injury to personal property (2 counts). Calvin Metcalf is being held in jail on a $65,000.00 secured bond. He is schedule to appear in court on August 8, 2014.
 
Lt. Detective Hobson obtained arrest warrants on Phillip Metcalf for felony breaking and entering (2counts) and aid and abet felony larceny. Phillip Metcalf is being held on a $65,000.00 secured bond. He is schedule to appear in court on August 12, 2014.
 
The investigation is continuing and more charges are pending against the pair.
