The Cane River boys won the Toe River Conference Tournament last weekend with a victory over cross-town rivals East Yancey in the championship game at Bowman Middle School. The East Yancey boy’s topped Harris 43-31 in the TRC Semifinal in Bakersville but could not keep pace with Cane River in the final, falling 53-40. The Lady Panthers made their way to the title game of the Toe River Conference Tournament and topped #1 seed Avery Middle 43-37 to win the girl’s championship. East Yancey is pictured above. The Lady Rebels beat Bowman 27-20 in the opening round of the TRC basketball tournament but fell to Avery Middle in the semifinals to finish off their season. McCurry Named Pre-Season All-American

Mountain Heritage senior short stop, Gray McCurry, has been named to the 2015 Under Armour Pre-Season All-American Team Selection  based on a strong performance at a previous Under Armour event or a recommendation from a pro scout.  Because of this honor, Gray has been invited to Mesa, Arizona during the week of January 16-18, 2015.  He will compete in a tournament (more)

Youth League Season & Tournament Champs!

The Cane River Rebels 5th and 6th grade team finished off their undefeated season and playoff run with a 30-0 win over the Old Fort Vikings in the championship game Saturday, November 8th. Cougar QB Trey Robinson Breaks 1,000 Yard Barrier

Heritage freshman quarterback Trey Robinson became the first Western North Carolina football player to reach the 1,000 yards mark in multiple offensive categories with his 153 yards rushing and 67 yard passing performance in a 30-17 win over Avery County last week. Robinson, son of longtime Cougar Coach Joey Robinson, now has 1,128 and 14 touchdowns to his credit passing the football this year, while the 9th grader has rushed for 9 touchdowns and 1,109 yards for the Cougars. Heritage (5-5, 2-3) will finish off the regular season at home this week against Madison (2-8,0-5).
