Yancey County Sheriff’s Deputies have arrested two individuals following the discovery of an active methamphetamine lab. The Deputies discovered the lab on January 5th at a residence located at 261 Depot Street. Sheriff Gary Banks states at the time of arrest Deputies were serving outstanding warrants on Lisa Marie Honeycutt 42 of Burnsville. The Sheriff’s Office also had received information of drug activity at this residence. Honeycutt, who is a resident of the address, was taken into custody shortly after the Deputies arrived. Immediately following her arrest Deputies discovered baggies of methamphetamine, marijuana, and Clonazepam (a scheduled narcotic). An extended search of the residence also revealed an active methamphetamine lab. This lab consisted of the commonly known “Shake and Bake” method. This is the more common method used since restrictions on Pseudoephedrine came into play several years ago, according to Banks. The deputies were able to locate several of the precursor chemicals, which are used in the manufacturing of methamphetamine. Deputies also arrested Darrell Junior Mitchell 45, of the same address.

Both Mitchell and Honeycutt were charged with;
Manufacturing methamphetamine
Felony possession of methamphetamine
Possessing precursor chemicals to manufacture methamphetamine
Maintaining a dwelling for controlled substances
Possession of marijuana
Possession of schedule IV controlled substance
Possession of drug paraphernalia
The couple also faces charges for the sell and deliver of methamphetamine, possession with intent to manufacture, sell, and deliver methamphetamine, and additional charges for maintaining a dwelling for controlled substances, which stems from an additional ongoing investigation led by the Yancey County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division. Sheriff Banks said "This case is still an open and ongoing investigation and that additional arrest are likely to be made".
