2015 Mitchell Fan Fest Kickoff


Attention Fans of Mitchell County Football!!  Make plans now to attend the 2015 Mitchell Fan Fest Kickoff - the county wide football season kickoff on Saturday, August 1st at Mitchell High School.  It’s going to be a fun filled day that will serve as a fundraiser for the Mitchell High Mountaineers. The day will begin with a 5K Run and a Motorcycle Ride.  Registration for the 5K Run at 7AM, Run begins at 8.  Registration for the Motorcycle Ride at 11 AM, Ride begins at 12 Noon.  From 12 noon until 5 there will be football expositions, inflatables, dunking booth and carnival games.  There will be food and MHS Memorabilia for sale all day long.  Then to cap off a great day there we will be a bonfire and a DJ to provide fun music through the evening.  It’s all on Saturday, August 1st at Mitchell High School.  Don’t Miss it!!

Male and Female Athelete of the Year at Mitchell


At the June 2nd Senior Award's Night Zach Boone and Madison Spurling were named Mitchell High Schools 2015 Male and Female Athlete of the Year. This award was presented by Coach Emily Hyatt.  Zach and Madison both have participated on the varsity level since their freshmen year. Sam McKinney Signs with Montreat


Mitchell High School senior Sam McKinney has committed to playing basketball at Montreat College. McKinney was an All-Western Highlands Conference guard for the Mountaineers who averaged 10.1 points and 2.1 rebounds per game. He was selected to the West versus MidWest All-Star game. McKinney missed an early portion of the season after breaking four facial bones and suffering a concussion during a practice drill.

Ryan McKinney Signs to Play Baseball


Mitchell's Ryan McKinney has signed to play baseball at Johnson University. This past season the senior batted .362 and lead Mitchell in walks (26), on-base percentage (.583), and runs scored (22). His on-base percentage led the Western Highlands conference and his number of walks led the state. He helped Mitchell earn a second place finish in the conference. He is also an Academic Letter Scholar and a member of the National Honor Society and plans to earn a teaching degree in Sports & Fitness Leadership to become a teacher and coach after college. Johnson University is located in Knoxville, Tenn. and plays in the D1 division of the Mid-East region of the NCCAA (National Christian Collegiate Athletic Association). Ryan is the son of Russell and Tonya McKinney of Spruce Pine.

Mitchell Wins Wrestling Championship (Details)


Mitchell triumphed over Chatham Central Saturday evening, February 7th by a score of 42 to 30 to claim the State 1A Championship. Kegan Hoilman won the Outstanding Performance award. Photos by Steve Hall.
