Zach Boone To Run For Mississippi

Seven-time state champion Zach Boone from Mitchell has signed to run college cross country and track for Mississippi. Boone said he made his commitment official to the Southeastern Conference program over the weekend. N.C. State was his other finalist in the recruiting process. Boone won the NCHSAA 1-A cross country meet earlier this month in 16 minutes, 8.58 seconds. "(Mississippi) is an up-and-coming team and they believed in me," Boone said. "They seemed to believe I can come in and help the program. I wanted to go somewhere like that. It was hard to sort through everything and make a decision, but it's a big weight off." Boone plans to race in the Foot Locker South Regional on Nov. 29 in Charlotte and then wind down a bit. Mitchell has an indoor track team, but Boone doesn't expect to start competing in that NCHSAA winter sport until January.
