The Asheville Citizen-Times released its All-WNC list and four Mitchell wrestlers were named as honorable mention. Congratulations to Daniel Bomar, Tanner Buchanan, Kyler Hoilman, and Levi Richardson for receiving this honor.
Lady Mountaineer basketball coach Dawn Lowe has resigned her position after nine years at the helm at the Mitchell County high school. Lowe, who has been coach of the Lady Mountaineers since the 2004-2005 season guided her teams to several good runs including a record of 74-13 over a three year period from 2007-20010. In the 2007-2008 season Lowe’s team finished the season 25-5 overall and an impressive 12-0 in the always tough Western Highlands Conference regular season. In 2010 the Lady Mountaineers made it all the way to the Regional Championship game. Mitchell has struggled as of late with a record of 28-42 since the 2010-2111 season. Mitchell County school officials will meet over the next couple of weeks to finalize the search process for Lowe’s replacement.
