Two Mitchell Seniors Honored

On Thursday, September 15, at their weekly meeting, the Rotary Club of Spruce Pine recognized and honored two Mitchell High School students as Rotary Seniors of the Month, They were Kaylee McMurray and Samantha Fortner, who were introduced by MHS Counselor, Grant Sparks. Mitchell Students Attend Camp Challenge

Before heading back to school, students from Harris Middle School and Bowman Middle School attended Camp Challenge at YMCA Camp Weaver in Greensboro. All students attended on full scholarships provided by the North Carolina Bankers Association Foundation.  The opportunity is made possible through a partnership with the North Carolina Bankers Association, Rural Education Partners of Mitchell County, Unimin Corporation and Mitchell County Schools.  At camp students learn the basics of personal finance, etiquette, and reading, writing and speaking for success, as well as participate in archery, swimming, teambuilding, gardening and hiking.
