With all of the mild weather that we have experienced this winter, area school systems have not yet had to deal with the problem of rescheduling snow days on the school calendar. Mitchell County Schools recently announced that their plan in place to make up snow days with school on Saturday has been suspended until the weather warrants a change in the policy. Assistant School Superintendent Rick Spurling said on Wednesday that if the weather pattern was to shift and force schools to be closed for an extended period of time, then the school system would have to take actions to deal with that situation. Spurling said that Mitchell County has nine snow days built into the school calendar and that he does not think that Saturday school will be necessary, but you never know what Mother Nature has in mind.
