Details: A native of McDowell County, he was a son of Flo Beam McKinney of Marion and the late Ivory Harwood, who passed away in 1974. Richard loved to fish and hunt.
     Surviving are his mother and step-father, Flo and Ernest Mckinney; daughters: Wendy Harwood of Marion, Holly Beck and husband, Doug, of Alexander and Ashley Harwood of Hickory; sisters: Judy Biggerstaff of Valdese, Rhonda Harwood of Marion and Donna McKinney and husband, Randy, of Marion; brothers: Jay Harwood and wife, Linda, Robert Harwood and wife, Dorothy, both of Marion, Kenneth Harwood of Asheville and Donald Harwood of Jonas Ridge; six grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
     Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, February 1st at the New Horizon Baptist Church in Marion. Rev. Phil Murdock will officiate. Burial will be in the Hughes Cemetery in Avery County. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m. prior to the funeral service on Wednesday at the church.
