A Spruce Pine accountant has been handed a five year suspension from the NC State Board of Certified Public Accountants Examiners and his firm’s registration has been canceled. According to a consent order, the suspension of Cody LeGrant McKinney stems from an audit he performed for the Town of Burnsville for 2009-2010. The State says that their review of McKinney’s audit disclosed numerous deficiencies and a failure to comply with state and federal auditing standards. During his suspension McKinney will be prohibited from using the title CPA but will be allowed to work as an accountant.
