Mitchell County Schools Change Busing Policy

The Mitchell County School Board voted this past week to move from a Kindergarten-8th grade and high school busing format to K-12 busing for the upcoming school year. The move was made to reduce travel time for bus rides that will result from the closing of Buladean and Tipton Hill Schools. Citing shorter ride times and reduced expenses, the Board voted unanimously for the measure that will minimize the total miles traveled by 327 miles per day, reduce the number of buses need from 32 to 27 and save around $104,000 per year, according to scheduling coordinator Kandra Mooney.
