State officials announced that state and local law enforcement officers will be out in force over the Fourth of July holiday as part of the “Booze It & Lose It: Operation Firecracker” campaign. Checkpoints and stepped-up patrols are being conducted today through Sunday across the state in an effort to remove impaired drivers from the roads. There were 241 alcohol-related crashes during the Independence holiday week in 2011, which resulted in 3 fatalities and 196 injuries in North Carolina.
