Darrell Renfroe has been appointed as the new Director of the Yancey County Department of Social Services. Effective July 16, Renfroe will take over the organization’s top position after stints in six different counties in the state.  Talking with DSS staff on June 25, Renfroe said “I’m excited to be making my home in the mountains and looking forward to joining the staff of the Yancey County DSS.” Yancey DSS Board Chair Cathy King welcomed Renfroe and praised him for his devotion to social work, saying that he will be an outstanding leader for the Yancey County DSS.  Renfroe brings along experience in social services, including administering the Guardian Ad Litem program for Iredell and Alexander Counties, Senior Social Services Manager in Mecklenburg County DSS, Family Home Visiting Supervisor of Orange County Health Department, and supervisory experience in the Social Services Departments of Orange, Guilford and Durham Counties.
