Yancey County assistant district attorney Virginia Thompson has stepped down from the position she has held since 2007. Gerald Wilson, district attorney for the 24th Judicial District said earlier this week that Thompson was no longer with the office and made no comment on the reason for her sudden departure. Officials at the courthouse said that Thompson’s leaving will not disrupt the current court schedule. Before taking the position in Yancey County. Thompson, who lives in Madison County, was in private practice.
