Cane River kept its hopes alive by beating Cranberry 20-6 to go 2-1 in the conference play. Justin Keener scored on a 9 yard run to put the Rebels up 6-0 early in the second quarter.
After a fierce goal line stand by the Cane River defense late in the second, the score remained 6-0 at the half.
The Rebels got the ball first to start the second half and had great field position after a 40 yard kickoff return by Adam Shuford.
Thomas Davids , a 7th grade QB, connected with Isiah Buchanan on a 23 yard pass on the first drive of the second half and two plays later Adam Shuford took it in from the one to put the Rebels on top by two touchdowns at the 6:44 mark of the third quarter. Shuford also ran in the two point conversion to make the score 14-0.
The Rebel defense held Cranberry on their next offensive try and Cane River took over on downs deep in CRMS territory. Justin Keener then broke loose on a 64 yard run. Brandon Miller took it in from there, running 10 yards to make the score 20-0.
Cranberry avoided the shutout when they got on the board late in the fourth quarter to make the final score 20-6.
Next week the Rebels travel to Avery Middle.
