Firefighters from Mitchell and Avery Counties spent several hours Thursday working a small fire at TD Bank in Spruce Pine. Mitchell Communications said that the alarm call came in around 9:15 a.m. and units from Spruce Pine and Parkway Fire Departments in Mitchell and Green Valley Fire Department in Avery County quickly responded to the scene. The fire was quickly contained to the stove area in the bank’s kitchen and although there was little structural damage to the building, there was quite a bit of thick black smoke and soot throughout the building. The SBI interviewed bank staff today and will be handling the ongoing investigation. No injuries were reported in the incident.
