Mars Hill Bank Robbed

A Wells Fargo branch was robbed in Mars Hill yesterday afternoon. Authorities were able to capture the bank robber suspect after a chase at high speeds. 24 year old Kenneth Lennard Wells, of Winston-Salem, fled on a motorcycle into Buncombe County, then traveled east on Interstate 40 toward Black Mountain. Wells reached speeds estimated at over 120 mph. Wells stopped between exit 64 and 65 in the Black Mountain area and fled on foot. Officers chased him and caught him at about 1:15 p.m. Wells was being held in the Madison County jail. Along with the Bank Robbery charge, Wells is being charged by the Highway Patrol with multiple laws broken during the chase.  This is the fourth time in a week a mountain bank has been robbed. Last Friday, two banks were held up in Hendersonville. Police arrested Christine Johnson hours later. On Tuesday, a man held up First Citizens Bank on Smokey Park Highway in West Asheville. He is still on the run.
