Communities in Schools Get Aid from Mitchell Schools

Mitchell County Schools has agreed to help fund a program that has helped dramatically reduce the school system’s dropout rate. The school board voted unanimously to offer the non-profit Communities in Schools $22,000 to help bridge the group’s budget shortfall gap. The funds will help the organization, which provides a wide range of dropout prevention and support services for Mitchell County students; remain viable at least through 2014. CIS was facing closure after losing start-up and development grants and program building funds that the program had been eligible for since it began in 2004.
